TNFD Launches Platform to Upskill Professionals on Nature-related Reporting
The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) announced the launch of a new capacity-building platform, aimed at upskilling professionals and businesses to help them identify, assess, report and act on nature-related issues.
The TNFD was launched in 2021, building on the success of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), to support organizations in reporting and acting on their nature-related risks.
According to the TNFD, the new platform comes in response to significant demand for upskilling on nature-related issues. The organization published its final recommendations for nature-related risk management and disclosure in September 2023, centred around 14 recommended disclosures, aimed at helping inform better decision-making by companies and capital providers on nature and biodiversity-related risks, opportunities, dependencies and impacts. To date, more than 1,700 organizations have joined as members of the TNFD Forum, its network of aligned institutions, and more than 520 companies and financial institutions have committed to begin nature-related corporate reporting, based on the TNFD recommendations. The TNFD said that its guidance documents have been downloaded over 300,000 times in the last 12 months.
The new platform is being launched with two new tools, including the self-guided capacity-building platform Learning Lab, and the content suite “Trainer Portal” for use by training and education service providers.
Learning Lab provides a series of nine modules covering all aspects of the TNFD recommendations, and includes videos, case studies, webinars and interactive content, with new materials to be added in the future, aimed at enabling self guided learning to provide understanding of the TNFD recommendations and guidance on nature-related issues.
Trainer Portal was designed to provide white label training materials covering the TNFD recommendations to in-house training teams and third-party training providers such as academic institutions, certified professional training providers and consultants, and to provide guidance on incorporation of the materials into sustainability training programs.
Tony Goldner, Executive Director of the TNFD, said:
“Across sectors and geographies, business and finance leaders increasingly realise that the resilience of their business and investment returns depends, in part, on the resilience of nature. The release of these learning tools on the TNFD website today is further evidence of the Taskforce’s commitment to equipping market participants with accessible, practical guidance as they look to build the confidence and capacity for their organisation to take concrete action.”
