Kimberly-Clark Appoints Lisa Morden as Chief Sustainability Officer
Consumer brands company Kimberly-Clark announced the appointment of Lisa Morden as its first Chief Sustainability Officer.
In her new role, Morden will lead Kimberly-Clark’s Sustainability Function, responsible for operationalizing the company’s climate and sustainability-related initiatives, with a team of global program leaders working to coordinate the execution of programs supporting the company’s climate, energy, environmental stewardship, fiber sourcing, water management, health and safety, human rights, and other sustainability efforts.
Morden first joined Kimberly-Clark in 1994 in the environmental control team at a pulp mill in Canada, and she has held a variety of senior sustainability-related positions at the company, most recently serving as Vice President of Safety, Sustainability, and Occupational Health.
The new appointment was announced alongside the release of Kimberly-Clark’s 2023 sustainability report, updating the company’s progress on its sustainability initiatives and its 2030 goals, which include targets to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% and Scope 3 by 20%, reduce its natural forest fiber footprint by 50%, and its plastics footprint by 50%, reduce the water footprint of its mills in water stressed areas by 50%, and advance the well-being of 1 billion people in vulnerable and underserved communities.
The report also included the introduction of a new goal for Kimberly-Clark to be 100% Natural Forest Free across its portfolio, with an expectation to be halfway towards the target by 2030.
Morden said:
“We are proud of our progress and, in 2023, we continued to address challenges associated with single-use plastics, carbon emissions, and water use in our operations and value chain, while working to decrease forest reliance and increasing our use of renewable energy. We recognize that there are still challenges and opportunities ahead and we remain dedicated to supporting a more sustainable future for all.”
