Impact Investor BlueOrchard Appoints Martin Diaz Plata as Head of Private Equity Investments
Impact investment management firm BlueOrchard announced today the appointment of Martin Diaz Plata as Head of Private Equity Investments.
Founded in 2001, BlueOrchard offers impact investing solutions across asset classes, including private and listed debt, private equity, sustainable infrastructure and blended finance, with nearly $10 billion invested to date across more than 105 countries. Global investment manager Schroders acquired a majority stake in BlueOrchard in 2019.
The appointment follows the launch last year of BlueOrchard’s second and third private equity funds, including a financial inclusion fund in May aimed at fostering financial services to low-income individuals, and its second climate insurance fund in September, focused on technology to drive affordability of and accessibility to climate insurance.
Diaz Plata joins BlueOrchard after 20 years at Capital Group, most recently serving as Managing Partner of Capital Group Private Markets, responsible for private equity investments in emerging markets, with primary responsibility for Latin America and Emerging Europe and the Middle East. Prior to Capital Group, he worked at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette as a principal of DLJ Merchant Banking Partners.
Diaz Plata said:
“Emerging markets remain the fastest growing region in the world and offer ample opportunities for private equity investments. I look forward to leveraging BlueOrchard’s decades of experience in financial inclusion and climate investing to expand its private equity practice and help improve the lives of underserved communities around the world.”
