Franklin Templeton Hires James Andrus for New Senior Sustainability & Stewardship Role
Global investment manager Franklin Templeton announced today the appointment of James Andrus to the newly created role of Vice President of Sustainability Global Markets, responsible for overseeing the execution of the firm’s sustainability and stewardship initiatives.
Andrus joins Franklin Templeton after more than 9 years at the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), where he most recently as Interim Managing Investment Director for Sustainable Investing, responsible for developing and executing CalPERS’ Sustainable Investment Strategy across its $500 billion portfolio.
Based in California, Andrus will report to Franklin Templeton’s Global Head of Sustainability Anne Simpson, who also joined the firm from CalPERS in 2022.

In his new role, Andrus will manage Franklin Templeton’s Global Sustainability Strategy Team, consisting of professionals across Europe, Asia and the U.S., and will also work closely with the firm’s Global Public Policy team. Franklin Templeton stated that Andrus will also serve as an advocate and spokesperson with clients, external organizations, policymakers, regulators and internal stakeholders.
