Coty Sets New Sustainable Packaging, Water Targets
Beauty company Coty announced today a series of new sustainability goals, targeting areas including sustainable packaging and water use, including a goal to reduce water withdrawal by 25% by 2030, on a 2019 basis. The new goals were announced alongside the release of Coty’s 2024 sustainability report.
According to Coty, the new water reduction goal follows an initial water stress review conducted by the company across its manufacturing sites, with the company’s new report noting that four of its factories are in areas of medium to high water stress.
Coty’s sustainability report also highlights new sustainable packaging targets, including a new goal to reduce virgin plastic by 60% by 2030 on a 2019 basis, and a target to ensure that 90% of all fiber-based materials come from certified sources by 2030, expanding its existing commitment to ensure that 100% of its folding board boxes are made with FSC- or PEFC-certified material.
In addition to the new goals, the sustainability report highlighted key achievements reached by the company over the past year, including significantly surpassing its target to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50% by 2030, with an 82% reduction reached, hitting its goal to achieve gender balance in leadership positions ahead of its 2025 target, and reaching a 65% reduction in air freight emissions on a 2019 basis.
Coty CEO Sue Nabi said:
“In FY24, Coty made extraordinary progress toward our ESG goals, from achieving gender balance in leadership to setting ambitious new targets on packaging and water use. Sustainability remains central to Coty’s success as we continue to make progress in areas critical to the future of beauty.”
